International Distinction and a Silver Award for Top Dog. Silver award for the innovative use of olive oil in a cosmetic product at the World Olive Oil Exhibition 2022 & 2023.

The advantages of olive oil on the body, hair, and skin!

Olive oil, also known as “The liquid gold of the Mediterranean,” is one of the most precious treasures that nature gives us, with numerous benefits for the health of the body, skin, and hair, and  Greece has by far the highest per capita consumption of olive oil internationally

At “Top Dog,” we are proud that olive oil is in substantial ratios, part of the composition of almost all the pet grooming products we produce. And we are even more proud because we were honored for this choice at the World Olive Oil Exhibition awards.   Dry Cleaning Foam Pet Shampoo was granted the Silver Αward at the Olive Oil Delicatessen Awards in the category “Use of olive oil in a cosmetic product” as part of the World Olive Oil Exhibition 2022 held in March in Madrid and history repeated itself in 2023 with our innovative Leave In Pet Mask.

Why does olive oil have so many beneficial properties?

More than 85% of olive oil’s consistency is unsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid - Omega 9, palmitoleic acid - Omega 7, linoleic acid - Omega 3, α-Linolenic acid). It also contains polyphenols (category of chemicals that are naturally contained in plants and have antioxidant properties), tocopherols (Vitamin E), carotenes (antioxidant properties, skin protection), sterols (help in the lowering cholesterol), B-carotene, also known as vitamin A (antioxidant and essential for vision), squalene, etc.

Let’s see how the above composition of olive oil benefits the body’s overall health, and more specifically, skin and coat health.

Scientific studies have proven the contribution of olive oil to overall health and that its nutritional, antioxidant, and moisturizing properties positively affect skin and hair health.

Benefits of olive oil for the skin and coat.

Oleic acid has been found to help in hair growth and strength, maintaining the softness and shine of the skin and coat, and has anti-aging and antioxidant properties.

Palmitoleic acid nourishes and moisturizes in depth, is essential in the production of collagen, and rejuvenates the skin. At the same time, it also has anti-inflammatory action helping hydrate adequately atopic and dry skin.

Linoleic acid helps reduce hair loss, helps heal damaged tissues, moisturizes hair, has antioxidant properties, and helps maintain moisture in the skin and coat.

Polyphenols, known for their antioxidant property, protect the skin and coat from damage caused by factors of the external environment and solar radiation, have anti-aging effects, and help in their restoration while helping and protecting their elasticity.

Olive Oil’s Alpha-tocopherol, or otherwise Vitamin E, has very strong antioxidant properties and anti-aging action and, as a result, contributes significantly to the prevention of skin damage. At the same time, it helps seal moisture and maintains the hair’s hydration level.

Squalene mimics the natural function of skin lipids by forming a protective film, thus effectively strengthening its “shield,” which protects against irritation and retains moisture and nutrients. In addition, its content of monounsaturated fatty acids, linoleic, and linolenic, enhances hydration and shine.

Olive oil is an indispensable ally in skin and coat care. Its inclusion  - along with many other beneficial natural ingredients - in “Top Dog” ’s shampoos, conditioners, and hair and skin care lotions give our products their unique effectiveness in cleansing, hygiene, and care of pets.
